Michael Blasie, trial litigator and appellate counsel.
A litigator built around clarity and persuasion.
Michael Blasie spent ten years managing complex civil and criminal matters across New York and Colorado. He started at a top international law firm in midtown Manhattan, where he built deep experience in state and federal court practice, and went on to serve as the senior brief writer at a premier Colorado litigation boutique. There he became the strategist other lawyers turned to when a case hinged on a dispositive motion or an appeal, in mass tort, class action, insurance, medical malpractice, and legal malpractice cases.
That is the work Michael does at Iseman PLLC: the critical motion, the complex appeal, the case where the exposure is too high for anything less than the firm’s best argument, made clearly.
Courtroom experience from the judge’s side of the bench.
As a law clerk to Judge David Richman on the Colorado Court of Appeals, Michael watched appellate decisions get made from the inside. He learned firsthand how judges read a record, weigh an argument, and decide, and what moves them.
He then began teaching that knowledge back to the bench itself. As a lead writing instructor for the National Judicial College, Michael has taught judges from across the United States and abroad how decisions get written. Few advocates ever see a courtroom from that side, and it shapes every brief he files: he writes for the reader who has to decide.
An international authority on plain language.
Michael is an international expert on plain language and cross cultural communication. He wrote Plain Language Laws in the United States, has published research in top law journals, and co-authored the Colorado Appellate Law and Practice Treatise. A former international law school Dean at KIMEP University in Kazakhstan and a Fulbright Specialist Scholar in Turkey, he has been a keynote speaker and presenter dozens of times in over nine countries on four continents.
He has trained the next generation of advocates too, serving as a law professor at Penn State Dickinson Law and Seattle University, where he taught legal writing and oral advocacy.
Volunteer service as a firefighter and EMT.
Away from the courtroom, Michael spent several years serving his neighbors as a volunteer firefighter and EMT in Colorado and Pennsylvania.
Where Michael’s work meets the firm’s cases.
Iseman PLLC tries cases, and trial work runs on the written motions that shape what a jury ever hears and the appeals that follow a verdict. Michael’s decade of dispositive motion and appellate practice deepens both, across the firm’s criminal defense work and its civil docket.
